How Made in Britain championed British manufacturers at Smart Manufacturing Week

Sector achievements, growth and recognition in focus

Made in Britain returned to Smart Manufacturing Week this month at the NEC in Birmingham, joining hundreds of manufacturers, innovators and policy leaders for one of the UK’s most anticipated industrial events.

The two-day exhibition and conference series offered members a valuable opportunity to engage with industry developments, network with peers, and explore best practices in sustainable and technologically driven manufacturing.

As part of this year’s programme, Made in Britain’s Director of Membership and Programmes, Simon Boyd, took to the stage to speak about the importance of maintaining high standards across the British manufacturing landscape, and how the Made in Britain mark continues to provide members with a trusted, recognisable symbol of that quality.

“Manufacturing has never been more visible or more vital,” said Simon. “Across our growing network of trusted British manufacturers, we’re seeing a clear shift from resilience to growth - and much of that is being driven by a collective commitment to quality, sustainability and purpose.

“The Made in Britain mark is about values, impact and trust. It’s an increasingly valuable mark of provenance, with half of Britons now recognising the Made in Britain trademark on domestic goods. We’re proud to see members using it to drive exports, improve internal culture, and stand out in increasingly competitive markets.”

Smart Manufacturing Week also hosted The Manufacturer Top 100 awards: an annual celebration of the people powering progress in UK industry. Now in its 12th year, the awards recognise standout individuals across categories including Inspiring Leader, Net Zero Hero, Digital Transformer and Young Pioneer.

Made in Britain CEO John Pearce returned as a judge for this year’s awards, helping to select winners from across the country. Speaking ahead of the event, he said:

“The Manufacturer has done such a great job in putting these awards on each year, giving everyone in the sector a chance to celebrate each and every one of our achievements over the last 12 months. At Made in Britain, we care deeply about the domestic manufacturing industry, and are proud to be a part of these awards once more.”

Made in Britain members are strongly represented in past Top 100 listings — with former winners including Trent Refractories, Heald Ltd, and Lockabox, among others.

Members interested in nominating a colleague or applying directly are encouraged to do so via The Manufacturer’s website, with nominations for the next round due to open in early 2026.
