Inside The Rocking Horse Shop: craftsmanship, creativity & community

Nestled in the charming Yorkshire village of Fangfoss, The Rocking Horse Shop has been hand-crafting, restoring, and inspiring since 1976. While the rocking horses are the stars, it’s the dedicated team and workshop that make the magic happen.

A Small but Mighty Team
Though modest in size, the workshop is home to unrivalled expertise. Four front-of-house staff are always ready to answer questions, take orders, and share their passion. Behind the scenes, the leatherwork team brings over 50 years of combined experience, producing bespoke tack and more than 100 different saddle combinations. Meanwhile, the wood and metalwork team handle timber packs, carving, swing irons, and delicate restorations that breathe life back into treasured family horses.

Workshops Under One Roof
Unlike many modern businesses, The Rocking Horse Shop keeps almost everything on site: wood, leather, metal, and paint. This allows every project to be tailored, hand-made, and carefully finished — whether it’s a new creation or a restoration of a beloved heirloom.

A Place to Visit and Learn
Visitors are always welcome in the showroom, where finished horses and ongoing restorations are proudly displayed. For those eager to deepen their skills, the shop offers hands-on carving courses. Students often describe these as unforgettable experiences, combining expert tuition with camaraderie and creativity.

Whether you’re commissioning a bespoke rocking horse, restoring a family treasure, or learning to carve your own, The Rocking Horse Shop is about more than craftsmanship. It’s about heritage, artistry, and a team whose enthusiasm is truly infectious.
