Adding to their growing repertoire of CNC machinery, Instinct Hardware have taken delivery of a Biglia B620YS turning centre. This clever machine gives the Birmingham-based manufacturers more versatility than ever for production of their high-quality British-made bespoke ironmongery.
The new machine was chosen as it can drastically reduce the number of separate setups involved in the production of components. It can perform several operations simultaneously, from taking the raw steel bars through cutting, milling, turning, broaching, drilling and tapping. This effectively turns the machine into a one stop shop for production of bespoke, high-quantity components.
Quality has always been at the heart of the Instinct philosophy, so the B620YS was a perfect choice, offering superior finishing as well as incredible cutting accuracy thanks to its rigidity and high torque motor. Instinct also chose an integrated 80mm dia. Hydrafeed automated bar feed, meaning increased production efficiency and precision control over positioning.
The machine, purchased and set up through Whitehouse Machine Tools, offers advanced technological features and a user-friendly control interface, simplifying programming and operation. It’s therefore perfectly placed to fit in with the Industry 5.0 digitalisation taking place at Instinct. The machine features two C-axes, a Y-axis and a sub-spindle, with the main C-axis spindle measuring an impressive 8 inches.
Nil Chohan, Technical & Business Development Director at Instinct goes into more detail “We were looking for a machine to support the increasing workloads going through our factory, whilst maintaining the highest levels of quality. Working with Whitehouse, we have put together a tailored solution in the Biglia B620YS, mainly due to its power precision engineering and tight tolerances. The machine can handle the high grade T316 stainless steel that we craft. Using this machine cuts down production time and allowing large quantities to flow through the factory with minimal disruption to other operations.”
“The Biglia is so versatile and allows for simultaneous front and back-end machining, so components will come off the machine in one hit. This means less setups, better accuracy, and less chances for human error. We’re looking forward to including this machine alongside our wide range of CNCs.”
With a rigid construction, the Biglia machine offers stability and precision during high-speed operations. The spindle provides high torque and speed, whereas the Y-axis provides plenty of scope for off-centre milling and machining.
