- The British coffee espresso engineering brand has sold over 22,000 units globally, with 88% of its stovetop coffee brewers exported - with growing demand from China and the USA.
- 9Barista said that using British manufacturers in their supply chain and the Made in Britain Trademark has enabled them to speed up the global rollout of their award-winning machine.
9Barista welcomed the Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Daniel Zeichner, MP (pictured) to its Cambridge HQ to celebrate its King’s Award in Innovation.
Made in Britain invited Mr Zeichner, who is the MP for Cambridge, to highlight the company’s commitment to quality manufacturing and engineering innovation here in the UK.
Joined by Made in Britain CEO, John Pearce, the British coffee brewer explained the intrinsic value that the Made in Britain mark affords the brand in increasingly competitive global markets and shares its thoughts on imitation accreditations.
Hugh Clark, research and development engineer for 9Barista, said: “The Made In Britain mark is a great way of communicating to our customers that we're taking advantage of the manufacturing here in the UK and that our products are better quality as a result. Having an organisation like Made In Britain lend its name and mark to the 9Barista machine is a recognisable seal of approval saying: 'This is the real deal'."
“Customer perception, especially in overseas markets, is incredibly powerful - and we find that showing the Made in Britain trademark on our stovetop espresso machines reinforces our credibility as offering something quintessentially British. In markets such as China and the US, where we typically export almost 90% of our machines, it’s seen as a rarity to boast that something is created and realised in the UK. In fact, this is especially well received by the emerging Chinese middle-class which value luxury goods and experiences with limited space to enjoy it. In this sense, our compact stovetop espresso maker, which proudly bears the Made in Britain icon, is an ideal solution.”
Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Daniel Zeichner, MP: “9Barista has taken two of Britain’s great loves – coffee and engineering – and brewed up something truly special. It’s amazing to see Cambridge talent creating world-class products and taking them global. This is local innovation at its finest, and I’m delighted to celebrate their incredible success.”
John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain (pictured), said: “Pinning the official ‘Made in Britain’ badge to my local MP Daniel Zeichner’s lapel was a proud moment - at the factory of one of our 2,100 British manufacturing businesses, just a short cycle from my home in Cambridge.
“Export growth of British manufacturing looks closer than ever when you see young entrepreneurs making and selling thousands of their precision-engineered machines to markets as far afield as China and the United States.
“At 9Barista, cutting-edge marketing and world-class engineering come together to brew the perfect espresso, and an inspiring vision for the future of UK manufacturing.”
