NATIONAL SPACE CENTRE AND NYLACAST LAUNCH MISSION TO DEVELOP FUTURE SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS

Leicester, March 2019 – Award winning engineering firm Nylacast today announced becoming one of the first sponsors of the National Space Centre’s IGNITE scheme, focused on developing future scientists and engineers.

IGNITE is the National Space Centre’s Community Engagement programme with a mission to get people excited about space and help develop the next generation of scientists and engineers.  The National Space Centre, working with sponsors and supporters, look to achieve this by providing new opportunities to young people in Leicester who may not otherwise have the means to embark on pathways to school, college and university courses.

Nylacast, the first engineering firm to sponsor the scheme, with their three year sponsorship will help to fuel the mission after launch and recruit new audiences, develop exciting new programmes and help them onto pathways into science, engineering, coding and creative design.

Chas Bishop, Chief Executive of the National Space Centre, said, “I am thrilled that Nylacast has agreed to join the IGNITE scheme to help fund the National Space Centre’s Community Engagement programme.  This programme will give wonderful opportunities for young people in Leicester to enjoy exciting activities that will boost their confidence in a broad range of topics and help guide them onto new life pathways.  Who knows, some of them may turn out to be Nylacast employees in the future!”

Nylacast are a world leading manufacturer of safety critical engineering components developed from advanced engineering materials and used in industries from automotive, marine and energy, through to pharmaceutical, defence and construction equipment.  With their World Headquarters located in Leicester the engineering firm is committed to nurturing and retaining local talent in the city.

Taking on 8 to 10 apprentices per year, Nylacast’s in-house Engineering Training Academy has developed over 40 students into fully qualified engineers.  The Academy also spends thousands of hours per annum up-skilling team members, providing opportunities for students and frequently visiting and hosting schools, colleges and universities to promote careers in science and engineering.
