New Estarli range disrupts the sub £2k UK e-bike market

Ultra sleek and premium commuter e-bikes for affordable prices.

Estarli has shown yet again that quality design/componentry can sit alongside affordability. Best known for its folding e-bike range and more recently the Estarli Longtail e-cargo, the Hertfordshire brand is now challenging the full-frame commuter space. Estarli has launched a new urban cruiser alongside a semi-urban commuter e-bike, both for under £2,000.

The e28.X - the ‘city belter’ - is Estarli’s new statement e-bike. A sleek, belt-driven cruiser equipped with an automatic gearbox. Available as crossbar and step-through frames and launching in three powder-coated colours, the e28.X is clean and lightweight (18.9kg with the battery and 16.9kg without). The torque sensor measures input 1,000 times per second to deliver power smoothly. Peaking at 45Nm, it gives enough grunt to help you climb the steepest hills effortlessly.

“The e28.X is all about comfort and ease,” says Co-Founder, Oliver Francis. “We wanted to design a bike that removed barriers and stress-points for non-cyclists. Anyone can hop on the e28.X - wearing whatever they wish - and be off in a second. It’s deliberately not a ‘smart bike’ - it doesn’t analyse you or complicate your day - it’s an ‘easy’ bike. No chain, no gears to change, no stress”. For Oliver and the team at Estarli, one crucial weapon the e28.X has in its locker is the highly-regarded Bafang automatic 2-speed motor. For new riders especially, it means they can turn any corner confidently knowing that hills are no longer obstacles.

The sister bike is the e28.9; essentially the geared variant designed for longer rides and total control. The MIVICE ‘high power’ 50NM torque motor is paired with the Shimano Alvio groupset. Like Estarli’s belt-driven counterpart, the e28.9 has a long range, removable battery that is only visible on the non-driver side (360Wh, Samsung cells). Both models also come with a built-in SP connect mount for phones and other devices. The e28.9 weighs in slightly less at 18.6kg (including battery).

Co-Founder, Alex Francis says “The e28.9 is ideal for longer commutes and weekend rides.  We wanted a bike that was comfortable during the week for the commute but capable at the weekend when you want to go out and explore. The e28.9 does just that, its lightweight and responsive design makes it a confident bike to ride regardless of how experienced the rider is on or off the road.”

The new models are designed to be both leisure bikes and workhorses. They can be fitted with 40mm travel front suspension, rear pannier racks and dropper seatposts. Estarli also makes a range of bags that can be added on.

The new range compliments Estarli’s growing ambitions to provide affordable quality at more touchpoints. There is also more to come before the year is over!
