New study uncovers worse pongs in the home

A new study has uncovered the five worse pongs in the home with bins topping the nauseating smells league table – so what are the worst and how do we removed bad odour around the home.

Indeed, of those Brits polled 17 per cent believed that bins were the smelliest object in the home, according to the independent survey by Aroma Care Solutions.

Coming in second place were odious drains, often the cause of stomach-turning reactions among homeowners with 8 per cent of those polled feeling they were the ‘top of the pongs’.

Meanwhile, tangy toilets came in a very close third place, shortly followed by pet smells and dirty dishwashers respectively.

Quentin Steele, from Aroma Care Solutions, commented: “Our nostrils are being bombarded by unpleasant smells in the home with bins being the top offender. In fact, some proliferous pongs can be quite overpowering if not dealt with.”

Additional research then also discovered what bad smells make us feel, with agitation one of the main affects according to almost 19 per cent of those questioned.

Other emotions triggered by a woeful whiff include sadness, anger, restlessness and tiredness.

However, on the flip side, a good smell leads to a sense of calm among almost 1-in-5 people polled, while others feel happy, positive, welcoming or enthusiastic.

Quentin added: “The sense of smell is incredibly important and should never be taken for granted. It triggers strong emotions, both good and bad, that can play a fundamental part in how we live our lives and behave with others.”
