Interserve Construction has completed the refurbishment of operating theatres at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The project involved the restructuring and upgrading of existing operating theatres to increase surgical capacity.

The APSX®-FSS Air Pressure Stabiliser was added to the Apreco range following extensive feedback from the healthcare industry. Many stabilisers on the market were bulky, difficult to maintain, and no longer met the latest fire protection requirements. Working with Warrington Fire and Laing O’Rouke, Apreco created a product that would meet these fire safety requirements.
Within an operating theatre, the air pressure stabiliser provides ‘door’ flow protection and is located next to a door, rather than the air ductwork system. The APSX-FSS, therefore, acts more like an Air Transfer Grille than a Damper. So, to provide a product tested in a manner for the environment it was designed for, we adopted the following test protocols to evaluate the APSX®-FSS-123: Fire Integrity Test to BSEN 1364-5: 2017 (WarringtonFire Test 412865) Smoke Leakage Test to BS476-31-1: 1983 (WarringtonFire Test WYC417772).
With its sleek and compact design, the APSX-FSS has been well received from Clients, Designers and Infection Control personnel.
The Easi-release blade system also ensures minimal maintenance is required, with the Easi-release blades system you can simply remove and replace the blades when required. Our APSX-FSS demonstrates how solutions to challenging fire safety situations can be achieved with innovation.
