The official Made in Britain Mark was omnipresent at this year’s FutureScape event held at London’s Excel on 21st November, with CEO, John Pearce chairing a panel discussion with members; Nick Burgess, director at Modular Group, Stuart Dantzic managing director, Caribbean Blinds and Richard Page, managing director, Burlington Stone. Also displaying the Mark prominently on their stand at this industry-leading event were Marmax, an award-winning manufacturer of outdoor furniture.
"The mark has become integral to our business. We joined in 2017 after researching all the different ways to identify our manufacturing products as British-made and seeing that the MiB Mark was something that goes far beyond. Being official and registered means it’s protected for us to use as much as we want to and to our advantage. And we get the benefit of being in this amazing community. Whenever we want British-made goods to collaborate in any way at all, we get onto the Directory and search for the product and now we can find where they are in relation to us. For us, the Mark is a lot more than just a logo – it’s almost a business community that keeps growing every year, like we do."
Stuart Dantzic, Caribbean Blinds
"Though the foundations of our business go way back to 1843, we never, ever stop innovating and progressing our business. MiB Chairman Prof. Chris Harrop OBE first got us interested in the official organisation of Made in Britain some years ago and we’ve not looked back since we joined. Based as we are amongst our main production resources, in the Lake District, being part of the MiB community helps to make everyone at Burlington Stone feel part of something greater and across dozens of other vital sectors. Like all businesses, we would like to see some stability and consistency across the economy in 2024. What the MiB Mark and the community give us is a focal point for the innovation, skills, attractiveness and longevity of the sector, so we know we’re not alone in wanting British manufacturing to be recognised as amongst the best in the world and essential to the future of the economy and society."
Richard Page, Burlington Stone
"One of my responsibilities is to give guided tours around our manufacturing plant in Blackburn. What people want to know these days is who is making the product, how is it being made and more importantly, who is responsible for the Modular building or home after it’s been successfully installed. This is the key differentiator in our sector – we build to rigorous standards and we stick to strict business standards in our relationships with the customers and suppliers. Next year looks like it will be yet another challenging year for the sector, but we know manufacturers, many of them with very long histories, are well-equipped to weather the storms and cope with market fluctuations. Being proud to be Made in Britain helps us to focus on building trust in our business and belief that British manufacturing has a strong future."
Nick Burgess, Modular Group
"Seeing so many manufacturers in this sector all promoting the official Mark and our values as an organisation is really satisfying and re-affirms my belief that in the landscaping and outdoor furnishings sector, we really are world-class as a manufacturing community. This is where the optimism and regenerative growth in the UK economy can emerge from. It feels like the grassroots of a greener recovery. Our MiB panellists contributing to the discussion, titled, 'Made in Britain: The Benefits of Buying Local' all had fantastic experiences and unique insights to share on localisation and sustainability in the landscaping sector, as well as ambitious plans for the future."
