LAKESIDE VILLAGE MALL

The Lakeside Village Mall is an outlet shopping centre in the heart of Doncaster with over 45 famous branded stores and includes restaurants and food outlets.

It has begun work on a significant refurbishment programme, which has seen more than £1m invested in the site over the year, with everything from the shop fronts to the landscaping of the site earmarked for improvement. Further landscaping in the mall has also been completed and the car park has more modern lighting and a sound system installed.
Working with a shop-fitting specialist, Edgar Builders, the LEDextra range was chosen for this project. Edgar already knew Dexretail’s National Business Development Manager, Mark Cinicola and liked working with Dextra Group because of its reputation for quick turnarounds, quality and value for money.

THE SOLUTION

The work focused on the upgrading to LED from 70W son hi-bays. In particular, the client was looking for a continuous run system. It was important that the lighting design followed the shape of the building illuminating the walkways under canopies and also to achieve a minimum IP rating of 54 against the specified product. Energy savings of over 60% were achieved and Dextra Group helped Edgar shorten the lead-time on the project.
The specified bespoke product was an IP54 rated suspended continuous system which followed the shape of the building, illuminating the walkways’ under canopies. LEDextra devised an ideal cost-effective solution using AluLED IP67 within 3m sections of steel trunking. LEDextra are the exclusive UK Distributor of AluLED and due its plug and play nature, AluLED made for a quick and simple installation. The bespoke solution also enabled the shop-fitter to re-use existing circuits from the previously installed 70w son hi-bays. For this project, 156 x 3m lengths were supplied. The client was looking for cost savings and happy with an industrial look so the steel was left unpainted on this occasion.

The AluLED is a compact and reliable solution to indirect lighting. The size and simple installation makes the AluLED ideal for mounting in tight shadow gaps and under lips. Also, the AluLED does away with any requirement for cutting, sticking and soldering that other indirect lighting may require. Available in both IP20 opal and IP67 clear as well as 3000k and 4000k colour temperatures, all this making the AluLED extremely versatile, quick and efficient to install.
Dextra also supplied its Opus 360 and Opus 3 products against the specified alternatives.
The desire to have 360 degree illumination in the space meant the Opus 360 was the ideal solution. Eleven of these were supplied. The Opus 360 is ideal for car parks and similar applications where a base mounted luminaire is required. The Opus 360 is also available in asymmetric versions for perimeter areas to minimise light wastage into adjacent areas.

The Opus 360 is manufactured from high pressure die cast aluminium with a toughened glass cover, sealed to IP65 and finished with a matt grey weather-resistant paint finish. This range has been designed to sit alongside the Opus Column to ensure that both ranges can be used in the same area with a complimentary appearance.
To provide feature lighting over the turret signage, five Opus 3’s were installed, again offering a cost-effective solution that was supplied quickly. The Opus 3 is a versatile floodlight range available in four housing sizes and a range of outputs from 1,100 to 35,000 lumens for use in a wide range of applications, both internal and external. The luminaire is available with an optional asymmetric lens aiding distribution and minimising upward light helping to avoid light pollution.

“Lakeside Village Shopping Outlet is delighted with the lighting results within the scheme. The new lighting has helped to provide us with the new modern and contemporary look required, to keep the shopping centre updated and attractive to our customers. The service from LEDextra Limited was excellent. The installation team were quick and efficient with minimum disruption to our daily activities.”
