Lighting up Leyton: Orient choose Midstream for new floodlighting system

Midstream Lighting has today announced another high-profile sports lighting win, penning a new deal with Leyton Orient to deliver a floodlighting upgrade at the League Two side’s home in East London.

When Orient get the 2022/23 season underway on July 30th, players and visitors to the club’s ground at Brisbane Road will be greeted by a brand-new LED floodlighting system designed and produced by Midstream. Installation will get underway this month, ensuring that the lights are ready to shine when the O’s return to the pitch after the summer break.

Sports lighting specialist Midstream will fit 70 of its Modus S1100 luminaires, the highly energy-efficient floodlights delivering better lighting across the ground while simultaneously reducing the amount of power consumed.

“Leyton Orient is a club with gigantic ambitions, and we’re proud to be supporting them on their journey,” says James Brunt, Midstream Lighting’s Director of Sports. “The system that we’re installing here will deliver significant improvements for players and supporters in the short term, while also providing long-term levels of power and quality that the club will need when those ambitions are realised.”

Orient’s existing floodlights have been in place for around 15 years. During that time, major advancements have been made in LED technology, leading to high-performance lights that are more energy-efficient. With the old system delivering a Lux (lighting intensity) level of 500, the Midstream design will up that to 800 – all while reducing power usage from 90kW to 77kW.

In addition to providing the new lighting system, Midstream is providing Leyton Orient with a range of additional services designed to help the club get the most out of its new system. This includes a full review of the infrastructure to ensure full compliance, ensuring that the club is fully compliant with both English Football League lighting standards and numerous health and safety regulations.

“This new lighting system is an investment in the future of the club,” says Neil Robinson, head of safety and facilities at Leyton Orient. “With the help of Midstream, we’ll soon be able to enjoy a Championship-level lighting solution – one that will deliver huge improvements on day one, and support us long into the future as well. Their team have shown great commitment in getting to know the club and our needs, and we’re pleased to be working with them on this exciting project.”
