Made in Britain celebrates World Environment Day

This Monday 5th June marks World Environment Day, a global platform to raise awareness and take action on the most urgent environmental issues. This year's theme is #BeatPlasticPollution which aims to address the problem of plastic.  The world is inundated with plastic, with more than 400 million tonnes produced every year, half of which is designed to be used only once.

Here at Made in Britain, we're celebrating a handful of businesses that are doing their bit to address plastic pollution and reduce their environmental impact.

Yana Activewear

Headed up by Sophie and Charlotte Wilson, Yana is a British-built activewear brand that combines comfort, performance and high-end style. The fabric used for Yana's new 2.0 stretchwear is recycled nylon. Waste items such as fishing nets are rescued, sorted and cleaned; they are then subject to a regenerative process and the material is processed into yarns. Yana then uses this material to manufacture stretchwear.” Said Co-founder Sophie Wilson.

muggi

Spearheaded by David Trotter, muggi is the world's only mug and cup holder that can carry and store up to four mugs or glasses, whilst catching unwanted spillages. It features non-slip rubber feet, plus finger and thumb holds, making it easy to carry for young or older hands. The tray is used in a variety of settings from caravans to yachts.

Most importantly, the tray is made from 100% recycled plastic.

Marmax Products Ltd

Having been established for more than 25 years, Marmax is an award winning manufacturer of outdoor furniture and play equipment made from 100% recycled plastic. Marmax caters for a range of sectors from schools to theme parks, hospitals and re-homing centres.

Each piece of furniture does not rot, erode or splinter and is guaranteed for a minimum of 25 years. Marmax is creating a truly circular business, by offering a take back scheme for all products once they have reached their end of life. Items are recycled back into the extrusion process to create more products for future generations.
