Made in Britain contracts international trade and government relations advisor

MADE in Britain has contracted George Middleton of MAP (left) to advise and manage its international trade and government relations work.

Over the last 12 months, George has been supporting Made in Britain to strengthen its relations with government and industry partners in the UK, such as the CBI and All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG). From July 2021, his work will broaden to include strategic trade and export support for membership, developing a programme of services for members and advising on international trade.

It is estimated that at least seven out of 10 Made in Britain members have exported at least once. There is a lot of demand for British-made products around the world – matched by a wide range of support available for UK exporters, from public and private sectors.  However, the opportunities and challenges in international trade are both significant, particularly in the context of COVID-19 recovery and Brexit.

George’s work will help Made in Britain members access the opportunities, navigate the challenges and more easily find and draw on the support on offer.

Government and partners

Made in Britain now speaks regularly with government and industry partners in the UK, on behalf of its members. Most frequent contacts over the last year have included: Cabinet Office; Department for Health and Social Care; Ministry of Defence; Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS); Department for International Trade; APMG; and Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain, said, "George will continue to assist me and Made in Britain's board of directors to develop these connections, making sure our members benefit wherever possible with helpful, free or affordable support that answers SME and larger manufacturing needs and queries. Due to the number and diversity of Made in Britain members, the time we can dedicate to individual members cases is limited, however, members should feel free to contact George on export and trade matters. Your contact also helps ensure that Made in Britain continues to prioritise the themes that are most important for our members."

Background and contact

International trade and export support are amongst George’s core expertise. He has worked within the area for the last decade, based in the UK and overseas. Roles with the Foreign Office and Department for International Trade, as well as in the private sector, position him strongly to assist Made in Britain and its members.

Should you wish to contact George in relation to your company’s achievements and challenges with trade, government (or both), please feel free to reach him via email: trade@madeinbritain.org
