Airmax Remote, one of the UK’s leading providers of telematics solutions for emergency services, has announced its appointment by North Yorkshire Police as their strategic supplier of telematics under an exclusive long-term agreement.
Selected using the CCS Framework RM6315 and following a rigorous procurement process, Airmax Remote was chosen for its ability to meet all of North Yorkshire’s requirements, leading to the selection of the Airmax Response service.
Airmax offers a range of telematics services that provide varying levels of vehicle and driver insights, utilising UK Microsoft Azure infrastructure and in-house resources. The accuracy of its vehicle data and intuitive user experience were key factors in North Yorkshire Police’s decision to appoint Airmax.
Providing vehicle data as a service (VdaaS) collected via the vehicle CAN, North Yorkshire Police will now benefit from near real-time data insights using the Airmax Software Service Platform. This will help understand vehicle availability for supporting front-line policing. The use of vehicle health monitoring, latest mileage, and condition-based servicing will enable a proactive maintenance operating model. North Yorkshire’s fleet team will improve their ability to manage and plan service events, understand workshop capacity requirements, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy, maximising vehicle availability.
Claire Ellis, Transport & Logistics Manager for North Yorkshire Police, said, “We are thrilled that Airmax has been appointed given their national success. It is reassuring for us to know that we have appointed a supplier that understands the complexities of our operational environment.
What sets Airmax apart is its unwavering commitment to data accuracy, which is essential for meeting evidential standards. Airmax’s end-to-end control over its product portfolio, from design to service delivery, ensures adherence to national standards and delivers an unparalleled customer experience.”
By understanding vehicle availability and usage patterns, Airmax will support North Yorkshire in determining whether vehicles are being suitably deployed within each district and in supporting future EV transitions. Understanding force dwell times, utilisation, and vehicle profiles will aid in the broader transformation of this fleet, which serves the largest county in the UK.
Additionally, accurately identifying a driver’s use of a vehicle is crucial for influencing driver behaviour and maximising the benefits of the telematics system. This includes improved safety and efficiency, leading to reductions in the number and severity of police vehicle incidents and quicker investigation of driving incidents. In the future, the aim is to eliminate the need for logbooks for routine journeys.
North Yorkshire Police noted, “Prior to this appointment, North Yorkshire Police had no telematics capability, which impaired efficient fleet management. The lack of factual information complicates fleet planning and alignment with key strategic priorities.”
To support the delivery of the fleet strategy, Airmax will be implemented across the entire vehicle fleet, delivering benefits such as improved value for money through more proactive vehicle servicing due to real-time mileage availability, and more efficient use of vehicles as a result of fleet utilisation. This will help eliminate underused vehicles and reduce unnecessary mileage, as reported from the Airmax Platform.
The deployment of services is complex, but with Airmax’s operating model, North Yorkshire is confident that Airmax is the only supplier capable of meeting project timescales due to its vertical integration. Deploying at police stations using its own vetted automotive engineers without disrupting front-line policing and keeping vehicles off the road time (VOR) to a minimum was crucial.
Airmax Remote Managing Director, Richard Perham, commented, “We are passionate about the services we provide to our customers, and with our contract development frameworks, we are confident that further innovation can assist the sector in aligning on best practices for using digital services for fleet management.”
Airmax’s relationships with vehicle converters, enabling technology to be fitted as a turnkey solution and supporting a phased deployment of Driver ID and Emergency Warning Equipment that provide a 360-degree view of vehicle activity and understanding of how to work with a customer workshop schedule, were critical for the success of this project.
In line with Airmax’s ethos, North Yorkshire Police will benefit from streamlined dashboards, insightful reports, mapping functionalities, and system integrations, following Airmax’s renowned “3-click rule” Dashboard, Reports, and Mapping principle. This intuitive approach ensures swift access to critical insights, empowering decision-makers to act decisively and effectively.
