Port Regis is a co-educational Prep and Boarding School in Dorset. The original school for boys was founded in London in 1881 before moving to its current home in Motcombe in 1947, becoming co-ed in 1976.
Port Regis is renowned for its exceptional staff and academic credentials, as well as its first-class facilities set within 150 acres of stunning grounds in rural Dorset. These facilities (which eclipse many senior schools) enable Port Regis to deliver ‘an outstanding, holistic education that inspires the head, the hand and the heart’, says the school.
Five years ago, Port Regis launched their ‘Green Vision’ with the aim of reducing gas and electricity consumption. Thanks to the installation of solar panels and the conversion to LED lights across the school site, as well as several other efficiency measures, the school has made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint, as well as its energy costs. Since the launch of its Green Vision, the school has reduced its electricity usage by 47% and gas usage by 27%.
Dextra played its part in helping the school achieve this after it was asked to replace out of date lighting that was very expensive to run. This was a local project for the company, with the school situated less than four miles from Dextra’s HQ.
The existing fittings in the school were a mix of fluorescents and very early generation LEDs. These were all replaced with new LED fittings, offering outstanding energy savings, hassle free maintenance and improved reliability. Three buildings now incorporate DALI, with team members at Port Regis undertaking controls training, making these buildings even more efficient and ‘very smart buildings’. Dextra recycled the old fittings through its Dexreco division.
