Rubber membrane for roofing and construction

DLR Elastomer Engineering have been a manufacturer of premium rubber sheet products for over 100 years.

Traditionally, much of the rubber sheet has been used as:

  • pipeline gasket materials for the chemical, food, pharma and oil and gas sectors
  • lining for vessels and tanks in marine and fuel storage applications
  • gaskets in OEM process plant and equipment
  • reinforced technical textiles for firefighting and defence

However, in 2023 DLR Elastomer Engineering undertook a project to develop a range of rubber sheet products that were specifically targeted at the roofing and construction sectors.

The range includes configurable options to  deliver a finished products that is both designed and manufactured to meet the specific application requirements.

Just some of the configurable options available include:

  • Sustainable materials
  • Recycled materials
  • Recyclable materials
  • Reinforcement
  • Backing
  • Flame retardance
  • Heat weldable
  • Adhesive bondable
  • Colour

By providing a brief and a specific performance requirements we are able to produce a rubber sheet product that is bespoke to a  customer application.  These applications are wide and varied and include anything from  :

  • ornamental pond lining
  • anti-vibration ballast mat
  • rubber roof lining
  • attenuation pond lining
  • inflatable craft construction
  • acoustic insulation
  • thermal insulation

With a 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Leyland, Lancashire, we are able work with our customers to develop very specific products that meet the particular brief.  However, the main difference in the way in which DLR Elastomer Engineering approached this project is that (perhaps counter intuitively) the focus is not on high performance products.  The focus is on 'the right performance product'.

By that, we mean that we have focussed on what is important to our customers for the application as many of the requirements we see do not demand the highest tear strength, or the lowest elongation or the widest operating temperature range.  By varying the material make up, manufacturing method we can dial down the physical properties and often present a solution that is more cost effective, uses more sustainable or recycled content and uses less energy in production.  Not only that, as all our rubber sheet products are Made in Britain the overall carbon footprint is reduce when compared to shipping product across the world.

At DLR Elastomer Engineering, we are excited to see what 2024 brings and welcome any enquiries for bespoke rubber sheet products
