The Newcastle Activewear brand giving back this Christmas!

YANA™ Active, Newcastle’s very own luxury activewear brand is celebrating their second year in business this December and is celebrating by teaming up with three other Newcastle businesses to raise money for Newcastle Women’s Aid over the festive period.

YANA™ have collaborated with Jesmond Dene House, Yoga Therapies X Life and Breathe Living to create a charity competition with prizes amounting to over £500 in aid of Newcastle Women’s Aid.

YANA™ Active was founded in December 2019 by sister-duo Charlotte and Sophie Wilson.
Their aim is to empower their tribe of ‘Everyday Warriors’ by designing and manufacturing unique activewear pieces in the North East, enhancing the concept of multi-functional and fashionable activewear. Earlier this year, YANA™ were shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year in the North East Businesses Awards and a Great British Entrepreneur Award for the ‘Make in the UK’ category.

“When we developed YANA’s brand and ethos, fundamental to it was creating a sisterhood and community of like-minded women who feel empowered. We are disturbed to know that domestic violence in the UK is so high and so many women and children suffer from domestic violence[i]” said Charlotte Wilson, YANA Co-founder.

Women’s Aid define domestic abuse as an incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour, including sexual violence, in the majority of cases by a partner or ex-partner, but also by a family member or carer.

According to the Independent, Stowe Family Law carried out a survey with other 400 women and found that ‘1 in 6 were more likely to suffer emotional or physical abuse from their partner over the Christmas period’.[ii]

“We’ve supported NWA since we launched YANA™ and this year to celebrate our second birthday we wanted to do something that would help this wonderful charity. Newcastle Women’s Aid provide life-saving services in England and build a future where domestic abuse is not tolerated.[iii] The work the team do at Newcastle Women’s Aid is truly incredible, after meeting the team last year and visiting their facility, we were truly moved by their work. We knew then, they were a charity we needed to support whenever and wherever possible as we grew as a business” said Sophie Wilson, YANA Co-founder.

Sophie continued, “we’re so thankful to the other three businesses who are involved in the competition. Jesmond Dene House have provided afternoon tea for two, Yoga Therapies X Life have offered a month of yoga for two people and Breathe Living have offered one of their luxury bath robes. They are all fantastic Newcastle-based businesses, who jumped at the chance to help us support NWA and for that we are so thankful!

Charlotte added, “Christmas is a happy time for many people, but for some, it is a time where their safety is in jeopardy. We hope by running this competition for our second birthday with three local businesses, we can raise awareness and money for Newcastle Women’s Aid and support women and children in danger over the festive period.”
