The flat-sided oval tube is practical and elegant, making it a popular choice for designers and architects. Its clean shape and versatility lends itself well to a vast number of applications. The smooth, rounded lines combined with the flat-sided profile provide additional strength  — carefully controlled ‘deflection’ tests have shown that this profile is up to 54% stronger than standard round steel tubing. 

The flat side also means it is very easy for fabricators and fitters to fix the tubing securely to other elements, which is especially beneficial in architectural design. It offers simple maintenance, which is why flat-sided oval tube is so often used in marine and medical industries. Its slim shape also lends itself well for automotive applications such as exhausts, which require a compact profile for clearance reasons.
