Product Description

Slat Conveyor
Slat conveyors are a type of conveying technology that uses a chain-driven loop of slats to move product from one of its ends to another. A motor drives the chain, which causes it to cycle just as belt conveyors do. Instead of a rubber belt, this conveyor type uses slats connected to a chain, providing a rigid, flat surface for every item on the conveyor. This makes slat conveyors ideal for irregular shaped products that cannot / are unsuitable to be used on rollers or belts .

Slats are typically made from metal or engineering plastic, which allows slat conveyors to function in high weight, hazardous, and high-temperature environments. Another major advantage is that the slats can be built with unique shapes to hold / locate items, giving them more use-cases than most conveyors. Slat conveyors can be manufactured to your exact requirements to match your speed and size needs, and can  have optional side railings fitted to help guide materials through the conveyor system.

Heavy and Straight
Slat conveyors are most commonly used for heavy products that would normally damage most belt conveyors( though they are often used for transporting dangerous or hot products. With there ability to control the orientation of an object they are widely used in manufacturing plants on assembly lines.

Typically slat conveyors operate in straight runs, but smaller, more flexible slat chains are available. These allow for curved slat conveyors to be manufactured which are used in the food and bottle manufacturing industries (Note – sometimes these are referred to as chain conveyors as they are thin and chain like).

Slat conveyors are most commonly used in the horizontal orientation or with a slight incline, but at Wrightfield we have found that there are exceptions

Types of slat conveyors

  • Standard slat conveyors – are used throughout industry to transport small to medium-sized objects that require orientation control and no accumulation. Select if you need a straight conveyor capable of moving general items, or if workers must interact with smaller product for assembly.
  • Heavy-duty slat conveyors – often used in the automotive manufacturing market. They provide workspace, support, and transport of heavy, irregular materials at slower speeds with ease.
  • Apron conveyors – are specialized slat conveyors that implement interlinked slats with raised edges to create a sealed, moving trough. They can be made leak proof and are often used in an incline to feed/discharge material from differing elevations, as their design is inherently self-containing.
